Journey of Festival Lestari

2018 - 2023

Festival Lestari, formerly known as Festival Kabupaten Lestari, has now evolved into a cross-sectoral meeting space to promote sustainable development with a focus on local wisdom. Over the course of five festival editions in eight years since the establishment of LTKL, various approaches to environmental preservation and community welfare have been pursued and continue to be actively worked on. With the spirit of collaboration and the joy of the festival, every element is encouraged to actively participate in creating sustainable solutions.

Festival Kabupaten Lestari 2018

The first Sustainable Regency Festival was held in Musi Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra, on July 24, 2018. Carrying the theme #IndonesiaInnovate: Solutions Created by the Nation’s Children for a Sustainable Regency, this festival presented various innovations that focused on people-based economy and data governance to support the vision of a sustainable regency.

Festival Kabupaten Lestari 2019

The second Sustainable Regency Festival took place in Siak Regency, Riau, on October 10–13, 2019, with the theme “BesamoMembeloSiak Towards a Green Indonesia.” The festival introduced the vision of a Green Siak through various sustainable innovations focused on restoration and conservation, land intensification, and disaster management related to land management. The festival also offered educational trips to Zamrud National Park and the Bunga Raya agrotourism program. This was the forerunner of the Telusur Telusur program—which continues to enrich the festival’s programming.

Festival Kabupaten Lestari 2020

The third Sustainable Regency Festival was held in Sintang Regency, West Kalimantan, on November 2–4, 2020, with the theme “Open Your Hearts to a Sustainable Economy.” The festival took a hybrid format, an innovation during the COVID-19 pandemic. Pre-festival programs were developed, including inviting culinary partners to explore local cuisine in Sintang through a Sustainable Culinary Journey. During the festival, a Sintang jurisdiction profile was launched, summarizing Sintang’s progress toward collaborative sustainable development. The festival featured a series of webinars and an interactive virtual tour. Singer Andien Aisyah enlivened the festival by singing her songs while dressed in Sintang woven cloth using natural dyes.

Festival Kabupaten Lestari 2021

The fourth Sustainable Regency Festival was held from November 23-28 in two regencies simultaneously: Gorontalo and Bone Bolango. Themed “Rebuilding a Sustainable Identity,” the festival fostered collaboration among various stakeholders to make local wisdom the foundation of environmentally and socially sustainable development. Various engaging sessions, such as the Sustainable Chat, Sustainable Innovation Gathering, the Exploration of Sustainable Culture, and the Citizens’ Market, featured curated sustainable local products and local food. The Sustainable Regency Festival also served as a platform for finding solutions to challenges facing the host regencies.

Festival Kabupaten Lestari 2023

In its fifth edition, the Sustainable Regency Festival transformed into the Sustainable Festival, fostering broader collaboration. The Sustainable Festival was held from June 23-25, 2023, in Sigi Regency, Central Sulawesi, with the theme “Growing Better.” One of the festival’s main programs was the Nature-Based Innovation Business and Investment Forum. This forum, the first of its kind in Indonesia, focused on nature-based green investment and the restorative economy in the Lore Lindu Biosphere Reserve. Five priority schemes were identified, including agroforestry, ecotourism, and downstreaming of natural products.
